- Bleeding: call 911, apply firm direct pressure, pack the wound if needed, and use a tourniquet for severe arm or leg bleeding (Stop the Bleed).
- Watch wounds: redness, swelling, heat, pus or fever a day or two later mean infection and need medical care.
- Treat diarrhea and vomiting with fluids and oral rehydration salts.
- Stay home and rest when you're sick.
In Finton
- Bleeding drains health until you treat it. Press B for first aid, and you can't sleep while bleeding.
- An untreated wound can become infected. Antibiotics treat infection; in real life they need a prescription.
- Drink untreated water or eat spoiled food and you risk getting sick. ORS helps you recover.
- Keep a first aid kit and meds in the pantry before the collapse.
Know the numbers
- Hypothermia: below 95°F is an emergency.
- Dark urine and low output: you are already dehydrated.
