A collapse survival game built on a realistic timeline

Most collapse games jump straight to the wasteland. Finton starts the day before, in a normal suburb, and lets you live through the breakdown hour by hour. The order things fail in follows what emergency planners expect after a long, wide power outage.

The three emergencies

ScenarioWhat happens
World at WarA distant conflict reaches home. Markets crash, fuel prices spike and supply chains seize up.
Cyber BlackoutAn attack on the card payment network and the grid. Cards stop working, then the lights go out.
Grid AttackSubstations are hit. When the power stays off, city water pressure fails and the town is on its own.

How the collapse unfolds

  1. Warning signs. Radio reports, lines at the bank and gas station, a withdrawal limit at the ATM.
  2. The run on stores. FoodMart sells out within days. Fuel pumps stop working when the power does.
  3. Power and water fail. Electric pumps stop and tap water pressure drops. Stored water, rain catchment and purification become everything.
  4. Law fades. Police are stretched thin and then pull back. Looters strip the stores.
  5. Gangs organize. Later in the month, an organized crew starts demanding food and ammo from neighborhoods.

Grid-down, SHTF, TEOTWAWKI: what you actually manage

Shelter and heat, water, food, power and security, the same hierarchy of needs preparedness instructors teach. You board windows, run a wood stove, purify creek water, smoke meat into jerky, wire up solar panels and decide who to trust.

Is Finton a zombie game?

No. Finton is a realistic collapse game with no zombies. The dangers are cold, bad water, hunger, injuries and other people.

What is a grid-down scenario?

A grid-down scenario is a long, widespread loss of electric power. Water pumps, fuel pumps, card payments and refrigeration all depend on the grid, so a long outage affects almost everything.
