Tab 3: When it gets cold
TAB 3 Finton Field Manual
▶ PLAY FINTON FREEDo this first
- Pick one small room, close it off, block drafts and gather everyone there.
- Dress in loose layers with a hat and gloves, and stay dry.
- Never heat with a gas oven or a grill, and never run a generator indoors (CDC).
- Know hypothermia: shivering, confusion, slurred speech, drowsiness. Below 95°F is a medical emergency (CDC).
In Finton
- Each piece of firewood keeps the stove going about 3 hours. Stack 10+ for the WARMTH need.
- Wood gathered in the rain comes home wet. Let it dry inside before burning; wet wood smokes heavily, and daytime smoke draws raiders.
- Board the windows. A drafty house gets cold fast and your family's health drops.
- Watch your BODY °F bar. A coat, hat, gloves and rain shell matter more as the month gets colder. Getting wet chills you fast.
- In winter, days are shorter and batteries drain faster in the cold.
Know the numbers
- Hypothermia can happen above 40°F if you are wet or chilled (CDC).
- Below 95°F body temperature: get medical help immediately.
